XDefiant Will be Supported “for a Long Time,” Ubisoft Says

When XDefiant was first unveiled, most viewed it as yet another misguided trend chasing exercise by Ubisoft, though over the last year or so, it seems Ubisoft has gone quiet about the title as it continues to work on it behind-the-scenes with a new branding. Having recently re-emerged with beta tests and new information drops, the multiplayer crossover shooter seems to be generating a bit more positive buzz, and it certainly looks like Ubisoft is viewing it as a game that’s going to have a long life.

Speaking in an interview with MP1st, Ubisoft’s Patrick Price said that the company isn’t looking at XDefiant as a one and done title, and is instead hoping to be able to support it with post-launch content for plenty of time after its release.

“Something that’s really important is the fact that this isn’t just a one and done title,” he said. “This is a title that we plan to support long term and continuously add new content into the game. And I think that’s a core pillar for our title in general, is that this is something that’s gonna be supported for a long time.

“Fans coming in will know that this is something that has a long-lasting aspect, whereas a lot of other titles are released and then they’re onto a new project. But, we want to focus on supporting this as long as we can.”

Of course, there’s a long list of developers that have made claims of long term support for their live service games, only to not be able to live up to those promises and watch as their game dies a premature death, so it remains to be seen how well Ubisoft will be able to keep up with the demands and expectations that XDefiant’s player base will have after is launch. XDefiant is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
