It's been claimed that a number of first party Sony games skipped the recent PlayStation Showcase even though they were ready to be announced.

Though Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase wasn’t completely devoid of major new announcements and updates – with the likes of Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirageand more showing up and impressing – the general consensus in its aftermath has been that it didn’t live up to expectations. In particular, the lack of big first party announcements, especially on the single player front, has been widely criticized.

That absence has been starkly felt, but what’s even more bizarre is that, as claimed recently in an article published by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, several first party PlayStation titles that many expected to be unveiled at the showcase were indeed ready to be announced, but for some reason ended up skipping the event. In a separately uploaded video, Henderson also stated that he had seen “a few” trailers that he was expecting to be present at the PlayStation Showcase that were not shown off by Sony in the end.

Meanwhile, prominent insider The Snitch has also said on his Discord channel (via Reddit) that he knows of some announcements that were meant to be made that got left out of the showcase, including a AAA PlayStation PC port that is due out in July.

Prior to the PlayStation Showcase’s official announcement, reports had claimed that “a good amount” of first party PlayStation studios were ready to show what they were working on next, and that the showcase would “set up the second phase” of the PS5.

Among the announcements that many expected would be made at the event, one was Naughty Dog’s standalone The Last of Us multiplayer game, which the developer has been talking about for a while, and said earlier in the year would be unveiled in 2023.

Leaks have also claimed that Sony is working on a new PS5 model that’ll come with a detachable disc drive and launch in September, though the only new hardware Sony showed off was Project Q, a remote play handheld device.
