"A PS4 version would require too much downgrading and changing of assets, lighting, and much more to function," says TeamKill Media.

Developer TeamKill Media has stressed time and again that it’s building upcoming cosmic horror shooter Quantum Error around the hardware of the PS5, and specifically, its SSD. That, in turn, has led some to wonder how the developer is going to be able to release a planned PS4 version as well, especially since even the Xbox Series X/S’ SSD has has been deemed not fast enough for a simultaneous launch alongside the PS5 version by the studio.

As it turns out, a PS4 version is going to be a bit too complicated for the studio to sort out. Taking to Twitter, TeamKill Media has announced that it has cancelled the PS4 version of Quantum Error. Though the developer “had hopes” it could get the game running on a PS4, it has ultimately determined that the game would “require too much downgrading and changing of assets, lighting, and much more to function” on PS4.

“Unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel the PS4 version of QE,” TeamKill Media wrote. “Even with the game being made from the beginning for the PS5, we still had hopes we could make a PS4 version happen, but with the level of quality we have achieved with QE with gameplay running at 60fps, we have reached the conclusion that there is no way for us to deliver a version on PS4 that would live up to what the PS5 is going to deliver. A PS4 version would require too much downgrading and changing of assets, lighting and much more to function, and with the difference in memory and the slower HDD speed, it would be a very different experience that will not compare to the PS5 version and would not be fair to PS4 players.”

Quantum Error is set to launch later this year for PS5 and PC, while an Xbox Series X/S version will arrive later. TeamKill Media recently also revealed over 20 minutes of new gameplay footage for the horror shooter, which you can view through here.
