Microsoft’s sizeable first party portfolio has had its fair share of ups and downs of late, but there’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that Hi-Fi Rush has been one of its best and biggest victories. Recently, developer Tango Gameworks announced that the gorgeous rhythm action game had surpassed 3 million players since it launched earlier this year, and apparently, Microsoft is ecstatic with Tango as a group on the back of that success.

That’s as per journalist Jeff Grubb, who recently said on his Game Mess Decides podcast (via @HazzadorGamin on Twitter) that Microsoft is “very, very, very happy” with Tango Gameworks. The company allegedly cares “a lot about that studio have a bright future”, and is “reinvesting in it”, regardless of how the raw numbers of Hi-Fi Rush or its other releases are looking.

Earlier this year, though it was previously claimed that Hi-Fi Rush had fallen short of Microsoft’s commercial expectations and failed to make the money it needed to make, Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg quickly denied those reports, saying that the game was a “breakout hit”, and that Microsoft “couldn’t he happier” with the team’s work.

In 2021, Tango Gameworks also released Ghostwire: Tokyo, while Hi-Fi Rush, too, has continued to get updates since its release. It’s currently unknown what the studio’s next project will be.

Hi-Fi Rush is available on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Read our review of the game through here.
