During its trial with the FTC, Microsoft said it expected the next console generation to start in 2028. Many suspected it had plans for a next-gen Xbox, which is more or less confirmed thanks to several leaked court documents (courtesy of ResetEra). However, the company will seemingly refresh the current Xbox Series consoles with new features before that.

The new Xbox Series X, codenamed Brooklin, will offer 12 TFLOPS GPU performance with a 4K target resolution. However, it will also have 2 TB of internal storage, a USB-C port, two USB-A ports, and “all digital” content delivery. One can also expect faster Wi-Fi courtesy of Wi-Fi 6E, a 6 nm die shrink for improved efficiency and a more cylindrical design.

If that weren’t enough, the PSU power is reduced by 15 percent, while a new low-power standby mode offers 20 percent consumption compared to the current models. It will also be bundled with the new Xbox Wireless 2 controller.

Brooklin is expected to be announced in fiscal year 24/25 around July and launch in November for $499. It’s worth noting that the Xbox Series S is also getting a refresh, codenamed Ellewood, which will reportedly be released in September of the same period for $299. Microsoft hasn’t officially announced either, so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
