Remedy Entertainment has never been a studio that likes to sit still with its creative works, and true to form, Alan Wake 2 looks set to be delivering yet another game by the developer that’s quite unique from most of its previous offerings. A lot of that will be down to it being Remedy’s first ever survival horror game, and in a new behind-the-scenes video, the developer has offered more insight into how it crafted the sequel’s gameplay experience to fit its new genre.

Alan Wake 2 will, as you’d expect from a survival horror title, place plenty of emphasis on things such as resource management and ammo conservation, with combat seeing players taking on challenging enemies. Light and darkness will continue to play a major role, just as it did in the first game, and will do so in several ways.

For instance, players will still be using light to stun enemies before killing them using weapons, while in the Dark Place, when playing as Alan, you’ll also be able to use light in certain places to shift and manipulate the environment and make further progress in the story.

Meanwhile, in the video, the developers also speak about Saga’s Mind Place and Alan’s Writer’s Room, subconscious spaces that the two protagonists can dive into to uncover new information and make progress in the story using their respective skillsets. You can view the video below for more information.

Alan Wake 2 launches on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can learn more about the game in our recent interview with game director Kyle Rowley, where he speaks with us about how the game’s atmosphere building takes cues from Silent Hill, how Resident Evil 2 remake’s success impacted Alan Wake 2’s development, how long the studio has been trying to make a game with two protagonists, and more.
