Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has launched in several parts of the world, which means millions of fans are diving into the third instalment of Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe. That there will be more chapters in the future seems like a given, but there are still a few question marks over certain things. For instance, before we get a Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 at some point in the future, will we first also get another standalone spinoff similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which launched between the first and second mainline instalments?
It doesn’t seem to be out of the question, interestingly enough. In fact, a spinoff focused entirely on Venom might also be on the table. In a recent interview with Insider, when asked about a potential Venom spinoff, Insomniac Games’ senior narrative director Jon Paquette said that though the development team is going to take some well-earned time off in the aftermath of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch, once it reconvenes, it will decide how to move forward based on “what the fans really want”.
“We’re focused on Spider-Man 2, and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react,” Paquette said. “We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’ We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations.”
It’s safe to say that a standalone game focused on Venom would be in very high demand in the fanbase in the aftermath of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch, though as you might expect of the series, there are other potential directions the series can take in the future as well- which is all that can be said here without diving into potential spoilers.
In our review of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you’d want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.” Read the full review through here.
