Kojima Productions announced last year that it had partnered with Hammerstone Studios to officially begin development of Death Stranding film. Now, another major player that will be involved with the project has been revealed.

Independent entertainment company A24 – which has produced films like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems, Lady Bird, and The Whale – has confirmed that it will be producing the Death Stranding film. Weirdly enough, it did so through a merch listing.

On its official online store, on a listing for a Death Stranding A24 shirt, the company writes, “It’s official: we’ve partnered with Kojima Productions on the live-action feature film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed video game, Death Stranding.”

Kojima Productions has also published an official announcement of its collaboration with A24.

“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other,” Kojima Productions boss and Death Stranding game director Hideo Kojima said. “The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of ‘game adaptation films’ out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”

Earlier this year, Kojima confirmed that he was “deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design, and content” of the film, but wouldn’t be directing it.

Kojima has also said that the film will be “taking a direction that nobody has tried before with a movie adaptation of a game.” Read more on that through here.
