Movie and TV adaptations of games have entered a new era of critical and commercial success, and given how many projects are being constantly greenlit in that arena, it’s clear that we’re going to be getting plenty more of those in the coming years. In December last year, it was announced that Death Stranding movie had officially been greenlit, with the film set to be co-produced by Alex Lebovici of Barbarian fame and Death Stranding creator and director Hideo Kojima himself.

But exactly how much is Kojima going to be involved in the project? Taking recently to Twitter, he touched on that topic, and revealed what the extent of his involvement is going to be- and it looks like it’s going to be a lot. From production to plotting to design, Kojima says he has his hands on most aspects of the movie project.

“Just to be clear,” he wrote, “I am deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design, and content of the film adaptation of Death Stranding, just not in charge of directing.”

And who exactly is directing the film? That remains to be seen. Details on its casting are also currently unknown, though one would imagine that information will be announced down the line (and hopefully not too long from now).

Last year, shortly after the film adaptation was announced, Kojima said that rather than making a big-budget blockbuster movie, he and Lebovici were looking to take “a more arthouse approach”- read more on that through here.

Meanwhile, Kojima Productions is currently also working on Death Stranding 2, which is in development for PS5. The sequel doesn’t have a release window yet, but previous rumours have suggested that it could be out in 2024.
