Kojima Productions is set to launch Death Stranding 2 On the Beach for the PS5 next year, while the studio is also working on cloud-native horror game OD with Microsoft, but that’s not the extent of its plans. To close off its recent State of Play presentation, Sony announced that alongside his studio, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is collaborating with PlayStation to return to the stealth genre.

He’s doing that with Physint, a completely new IP, and he describes the game as a “next-generation action espionage game”.

And how far away is this game exactly? Well, it’ll be a while. Kojima says preparations for the project are underway, but full production won’t begin until after Death Stranding 2 has launched next year. Oh, and he describes it as the “culmination of my work”, so that’s something to pique your interest.

“Preparations are underway, but production will begin in earnest at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2,” Kojima said. “We have extensive experience with Sony, having grown the espionage genre together for almost 30 years. Also, Sony not only does games, but also music and movies. It will definitely be a strong collaboration.

“Two years from now, I will celebrate the 40th anniversary of my game production career. I am confident that this title will be the culmination of my work.”

In typical Kojima fashion, Physint is also set to be built using “cutting-edge technology”, while he also says that the experience will blend aspects of games and films in more ways than one, something he has previously promised for the aforementioned OD as well.

“I cannot tell you so much now, but we plan to bring together cutting-edge technology and talent from around the world to create [Physint],” Kojima said. “Of course, it is an interactive game, but it is also a movie at the same time, in terms of look, story, theme, casting, acting, fashion, and sound. With this title, we hope to trascend the barriers between film and video games.”

Concrete details on Physint will arrive later, so stay tuned for more details.
