Amidst widespread reports that Microsoft is set to adapt a new multiplatform release approach that will see it bringing first-party Xbox titles like Gears of War, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 to rival platforms, there have been concerns within the Xbox fanbase that this new strategy could signify the end of Microsoft’s plans to continue making dedicated gaming consoles as a whole. Apparently, however, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has assured employees that that isn’t the case.

As per journalist Shannon Liao on Twitter (via VGC), Xbox reportedly held a townhall on Tuesday last week, Spencer told employees that Microsoft had no current plans to stop making Xbox consoles. According to Spencer, Xbox will continue to be part of Microsoft’s plans, and will entail “multiple kinds of devices”.

The full extent of Microsoft’s future plans for Xbox will be officially revealed in a business update event this week, though a specific date for the event hasn’t yet been announced.

Among the many first-party Xbox titles that have been rumoured for rival platforms, Starfield was a prominent one that was alleged to be headed to PS5. However, prominent insider NateTheHate, who initially backed those rumours, has since called them inaccurate.
