Alongside its first gameplay trailer, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree received several new details courtesy of an interview with FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki. He confirmed to Eurogamer that the Land of Shadow, a brand new map, has a similar structure to The Land Betweens and offers new Legacy Dungeons.

The size is “something larger even than Limgrave” in terms of “pure surface area.” However, the level design has seen some changes. “This time, we wanted to go more in-depth and bring a denser and richer level design, which brings these types of layouts together a little more seamlessly.

“There are, of course, large open areas and Legacy Dungeons, but we’ve also experimented with something a little more in-between these as well to bring a more diverse gameplay experience.”

Miyazaki also confirmed over ten new boss fights (including the giant flaming basket head and the mysterious Messmer the Impaler seen in the trailer). There will be new weapons, equipment and skills, with eight brand-new weapon categories.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is out on June 21st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. As FromSoftware’s largest expansion to date, it retails for $39.99. For those who haven’t played the base game (which has shipped over 23 million copies), you can pick up the Deluxe Edition for $99.99.
