Assassin’s Creed Codename Red is the next instalment in Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, but we do know about other major releases that are in the pipeline for the years beyond as well. Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, for instance, was announced alongside Red back in 2022 as the game that would follow it.
So far, Ubisoft has confirmed that it’s going to be set in the witch trials era and that, unlike most recent entries in the series (and the upcoming Red), it’s not going to be an RPG, but beyond that, there isn’t much else that’s known about the game. A new report published by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, however, has potentially shed some light on new details.
As per the report, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is being internally billed as “the darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever”, appropriately enough for the setting. It will also allegedly feature a female protagonist in the form of Elsa, though the report notes that that’s her “current” name, which would suggest that it’s not entirely set in stone.
Interestingly, this would make Hexe the first Assassin’s Creed game since 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China to only feature a female protagonist as opposed to a male/female pairing, and the first mainline game in the series to do so, period.
Henderson claims Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is currently targeting a 2026 launch, and will be preceded by the multiplayer title Assassin’s Creed Invictus sometime in 2025, with both games being part of the live service hub Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
