stardew valley update 1.6

Stardew Valley was released over eight years ago, selling 30 million copies on multiple platforms (and console generation). Though creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has often proclaimed the next update to be the last, Update 1.6 is out on March 19th and adds a lot of new content.

There’s a new major festival, two mini-festivals, Joja alternatives to some end-game quests, support for eight-player multiplayer on PC, new late-game content and more. Interestingly, that isn’t the extent of everything. Speaking to Polygon, Barone revealed, “What I released is just a little bit. There’s a lot more of the update than people think.”

Though he didn’t explicitly say else, Update 1.6 differs from 1.5, the last massive content update. “It’s more focused on the valley and the core areas of the game. It just adds so much stuff to all the different aspects of the game.” While the update is coming to PC first, Barone will work to launch it for consoles and mobile devices quickly. There will also be patches to fix any bugs that emerge.

After Update 1.6 is out, he’s looking to return to his next project, Haunted Chocolatier, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this is the last content for Stardew Valley.

“I feel like I’m the boy who cried wolf because I’ve said [this is the last update] many times myself, and I always end up making another Stardew Valley update. So it’s like, I’ll say, who knows? I don’t think I’ll ever officially close the book. The book is always open.”

Stardew Valley is available for PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android and Xbox One. Stay tuned for more details when Update 1.6 drops.
