Rise of the Ronin Guide – How to Quickly Farm Money and Silver Coins

Like most open-world action RPGs, money is essential in Team Ninja's latest title. Here's how to amass tons of it without breaking a sweat.

Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin features two types of currency. There’s the regular money used for upgrading weapons and armor. It can also buy loot, crafting materials, healing items, etc. However, there are also Silver Coins – a rarer currency used for purchasing specific items, which are harder to come by.

Here’s how to quickly farm both types of currency as you venture through the chaos of Bakumatsu-era Japan.

How to Farm Money

Like Nioh 1 and 2 and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, money is easy to earn. Completing missions and open-world activities while opening money sacks are ways to earn some.

You can also sell off any unwanted loot to make a quick buck. If you already upgraded your preferred weapons and armor (check out our guide here for more details), filter through any lesser loot acquired afterwards and mark them for selling. This is the best way to ensure a steady supply of cash.

Take note of the longhouses throughout your journey – they serve as bases to rest but can also buff your money acquisition. You can acquire wall scrolls and paintings and use the Remodel system to place them in the longhouse. Depending on the ones used, you can earn more money and even cause enemies to drop more items (which can be sold).

How to Farm Silver Coins

Silver Coins are less common but required for special items. For example, you can purchase mounts from Stables (which also have unique equipment for increasing their stats). There’s also the Black Marketeer and the Trader who sell the Brush Kit for respeccing your character, equipment pieces and gifts for Silver Coins. You can also purchase Treatesis from the Officer, Cat Collector and Photographic Studio NPCs, which give Skill Points.

So, how do you earn them quickly? When you venture to Yokohama, the Pilgrim Dog becomes available. Send them out on a pilgrimage for a price, and they return after some time with different items, including Silver Coins. Ensure you have a decent amount of money to send them out again immediately.

Another method is to venture to different locations and take pictures (with the reticle becoming red if the required object is in the frame). You need to finish the “Follow Your Blade Twin” mission, which leads to a meeting with inventor Igashichi Iizuka and acquiring schematics for him to make a camera. Once that’s done, photo challenges will appear on the world map.

Finally, complete any Bond Missions (which involve characters from specific factions), Grass Roots Missions (side missions involving the local NPCs) and Ronin Missions (main missions that advance the story). They provide Silver Coins along with XP and other rewards.

Rise of the Ronin is available for PS5. Check out our review here and additional tips here.
