In spite of its infamously rough start, Cyberpunk 2077 eventually managed to turn things around in convincing fashion, and the game’s continued improvement has been reflected in the commercial success it has consistently enjoyed since release.

As part of its recent quarterly earnings briefing, CD Projekt revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty have collectively earned 3 billion PLN in revenue, which is roughly $750 million. 2023 was also a big year for the game by that metric, with the launch of the aforementioned expansion and the base game’s Update 2.0 propelling it to revenue of about $206 million (826 million PLN), making it the second-biggest year for the game (with 2020, its launch year, being the biggest).

In October last year, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 25 million units worldwide. Meanwhile, Phantom Liberty had sold 5 million copies by the end of 2023.

CDPR has, of course, spent a fair bit of money on Cyberpunk 2077 over the years. The game had a budget of roughly $316 millionwhile Phantom Liberty’s development and marketing budget was about $85 million. Additionally, the studio also nearly $41 million on the base game’s post-launch updates.

Work on Cyberpunk 2077 has all but wrapped up at this point, with CDPR having moved on to future projects. One of those is Project Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which is currently in the concept phase with a team of 47 people working on it.
