Cyberpunk 2077 is “Done”, but Might Still Get Minor Updates “Here and There,” Director Says

Cyberpunk 2077 completed a remarkable turnaround last year with the launch of Phantom Liberty and the free Update 2.0, but CD Projekt RED has continued to release patches for the game since then. From smaller updates to larger ones that bring new gameplay features, the studio has continued working on the action RPG, even though the focus of the team has now very much shifted to its sequel, Project Orion.

Now, however, we’ve got to a point where CDPR is ready to move on from the game- for the most part. That’s according to game director Gabe Amatangelo (who’s also directing the sequel), who said in a recent interview with Game File that work on the first game is “done”, though it may still receive some minor updates “here and there” in certain cases.

“Yes. We’re done,” he said. “It’s possible that there’s some other little thing that comes in here or there, just because, as you’re kind of messing around with stuff, sometimes you discover something that is not a high risk. Or it’s easy to integrate. Or, you know, some developers have some bandwidth.

“Then they bring it to me. I’m like, ‘All right, well, I trust you that it isn’t going to mess with your other work… So let’s give it a go.'”

By and large, then, you shouldn’t be expecting any further major updates or additions to Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2, or whatever it ends up being called, will be worked on by a new team in Boston, which includes several leads and key developers who worked on the first game and its expansion. In October last year, CD Projekt said the sequel was in the “conceptual design” stage of production.
