Helldivers 2 has been nothing short of a revelation, having enjoyed critical and commercial success to degrees that even Sony or developer Arrowhead Game Studios would have dreamt. But even with all of its success, has it become one of PlayStation’s bigger properties? Johan Pilested – CEO of Arrowhead and director of Helldivers 2 – certainly hopes to see it get to that level one day.

After jokingly wondering why Helldivers 2 wasn’t represented in a graphic that showcased Sony and Nintendo’s biggest properties, when a fan opined that the series hadn’t quite got to that level just yet, Pilested responded, “I do agree with you. It’s crazy that it might be in the future… Like… It’s a childhood dream come true.”

It’s still very early days, of course, but in the nearly two months it’s been since it came out, Helldivers 2 has only gone from strength to strength. Along with smashing Sony records on Steam and emerging as the best-selling game of the year so far in the US, the co-op shooter has also maintained a healthy player base, thanks to its excellent post-launch updates and live storytelling.

Though Sony has yet to reveal sales figures for the game, analysts estimate that it has sold over 8 million units.

Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC. Read our review of the game through here.
