David Hayter has been a huge part of the Metal Gear franchise for decades at this point, being the voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss, and though it did seem over the course of the last decade or so – after Hayter was replaced by Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid 5 – that his association with the franchise had ended, he has recently been brought back into the fray.

In addition to being heavily involved in promotions and marketing for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Hayter is also one of several actors confirmed to be doing new voicework for the remake. What exactly that entails remains to be seen, and Hayter himself has now also seemingly suggested that the voicework he is doing for the remake might have more to it than it seems.

In a recent interview with YouTube channel Kakuchopurei, when asked about how much he has been involved with Metal Gear Solid Delta behind the scenes, Hayter stated that he’s doing some voice work on the remake that he “can’t really talk about yet”.

“From the beginning, Konami and I started talking, [and] I came aboard to help do promotion and work with them,” Hayter said. “They’ve let me in on what they’re doing behind the scenes, I got to play a little bit of the game a few months ago. There may be some things that I’m doing voice-wise that I can’t really talk about yet, but I’m working to support the game, and I’m pretty involved, which is nice.”

Konami previously stated that Metal Gear Solid Delta would be reusing the voice recordings of the original Snake Eater, barring “some” re-recorded lines, so it should be interesting to see exactly what the extent of Hayter’s new voicework in the remake will be.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A release date is currently unknown.
