The Elder Scrolls: Legends has been around for over seven years at this point, and though the collectible card game never really pulled up any trees – neither as an Elder Scrolls experience, nor as a CCG – clearly, it was seeing enough engagement to be kept around for as long as it has been. It seems that is no longer the case, however.

As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, Bethesda has announced with an in-game message that The Elder Scrolls: Legends is shutting down in January. The game is no longer on sale, and until its servers go offline, all in-game items (including entry into events) will be sold at 1 gold apiece, so that players can get a taste of all of the content on offer before it is permanently sunsetted.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends servers will permanently shut down on January 30, 2025,” the announcement reads. “From now until January 30, 2025, all items in the store and entry into in-game events will be available for 1 gold each, so you can enjoy all the content Legends has to offer. On that date, servers will be shut down and the game will be inaccessible. Thank you for playing and we hope you have enjoyed your time in Legends.”

It doesn’t look like Bethesda is planning to make available an offline mode or an option for private servers for players who may want the game to stick around, which is a little disappointing. That said, with the game having received no meaningful content updates for roughly five years at this point, its closure doesn’t come as a huge surprise.
