Founder and CEO of Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science, Feng Ji, has taken to Chinese social media platform Weibo to talk about the development of the game, and the troubles it faced on Xbox Series X/S.

Celebrating the fact that the action RPG received its fair share of awards during the 2024 Steam Awards, including the one for Game of the Year, Feng Ji thanked fans of the game for their support.

“Although there were no big surprises, I was still a little bit emotional after taking them all,” said Feng Ji in a rough translation of the post on Reddit. “Your combat capabilities are so terrifying, and the only thing missing is the Xbox robe… It seems a bit inappropriate, but the 10 GB shared memory, without several years of optimization experience, it is really difficult to use it.”

In the post, Feng Ji is referring to the fact that the Xbox Series S has a smaller shared memory pool, which totals up to 10 GB shared RAM between its CPU and GPU. As Microsoft requires games coming to Xbox Series X/S to have complete parity on both consoles, developers often have to grapple with the lower hardware specs of the Xbox Series S when compared to the Series X and PS5. It’s an issue that’s affected releases like Baldur’s Gate 3, which launched without local co-op on Series S.

Black Myth: Wukong is yet to make its way on to Xbox Series X/S, and is currently only available on PC and PS5. Back in December, the game got an update that allowed it to make use of the more beefed up hardware available in the PS5 Pro.

The last we heard about Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X/S, it had been rated for release on the platform by ESRB back in October. The studio has yet to officially confirm a release date for the Xbox version.
