A new leak indicates that Microsoft might be working on a new Xbox controller, and this time around, with features similar to what we’ve seen from the PS5’s DualSense. Caught by the X account of Red Better xCloud, a recent xCloud file was added by Microsoft which seemingly has DualSense-styled features.

In a screenshot posted by Red Better xCloud, two keywords were spotted: “sebile” and “actium”. While the “sebile” keyword is related to a Direct-to-Cloud Xbox controller, mcuh like what we previously saw with Google’s Stadia controller, “actium” indicates a new iteration of the Xbox Elite controller. Interestingly, there is also the “Delgado” keyword, which translates to “Slim” in Spanish.

According to leaks and rumours-centric X account eXtas1s, these keywords indicate that, among other things, the new controllers would be compatible with next-gen Xbox consoles. Along with DualSense-styled enhanced haptics, the new controllers are also expected to be modular, and will be leaving behind the replaceable batteries of previous Xbox controllers in favour of rechargeable internal batteries.

These latest leaks and rumours fall in line with a previously-leaked FTC document that indicated that Xbox would be working on controllers with new features, including haptic feedback and gyro support. According to the leak, the new controllers are also expected to feature modular analog sticks, and support for Bluetooth 5.2.

The new controllers are expected to be released alongside a mid-gen refresh of the Xbox Series X/S. Internally codenamed “Brooklin”, the refresh will include 2 TB of storage, a new design, and will be digital-only, with no disc drive. It is expected to offer 12 TFLOPS GPU performance, and is rumoured to be priced at $499.

While the higher-end Brooklin is in the works, the same rumours also indicate a refresh for the Xbox Series S is in the works. Codenamed Ellewood, it is expected to be priced at $299. Microsoft itself is yet to make any announcements regarding the controller or consoles. The recent inclusion of the controller codenames in xCloud files, however, indicate that we might be getting closer and closer to their launch.
