Among the few titles that stood at the Summer Game Fest was Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sonic Team’s newest title in the kart racing series. Guest characters like Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, Joker, and even Minecraft Steve shared the spotlight, but what about the total roster?

Sega shared some new gameplay details on the PlayStation Blog and confirmed over 23 playable racers. Of course, that’s not all, as the roster will “continue to grow” post-launch with characters from other Sega titles and “surprise guest racers from other popular game franchises.”

Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka also spoke about the tracks and presenting iconic locations like Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2 in a new light. “We designed many brand-new tracks for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but we also know that fans like racing on tracks that take them back to places they remember from Sonic’s history.

“In addition to the new locations, we also designed tracks using themes from past titles to create new ones based on familiar places. I am personally excited about the track based on Metal Harbor since I worked on Sonic Adventure 2. The team did an amazing job bringing Metal Harbor to life with a realistic portrayal that was impossible to accomplish back when the original stage was created.”

If that wasn’t enough, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will offer more than 70 Gadgets, some boosting speed and others allowing for carrying additional items. You can also customize vehicles with different parts and abilities, which extends to the returning Extreme Gear.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches on September 25th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
