While Remedy Entertainment has implemented several improvements and changes to its co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak, more significant overhauls are coming soon. It confirmed that the first major update will arrive in late September, adding a new Job with a new level (consisting of three Zones), two new enemies, a new status effect and more. The objective will be to eliminate mold strains on “the sushi train,” as the team calls it.

However, it’s changing the generic upgrades for its equipment and guns, providing a “playable and powerful version” of them from the outset. In exchange, a Mod system is in the works to “tweak how you want your guns to work and the ways in which they become more powerful over time.”

Clearance and Corruption Levels are also going away. Instead, the focus will be on “pre-made, exciting (you’ll have to take our word for that for now) variations of Job experiences” of varying lengths. All of this is contained in something called the Crisis Board.

“We are weeding out our least fun experiences, focusing on our best experiences, and adding brand new modes with plans for adding even more in the future. As part of this change, we’re also reevaluating our matchmaking flow, making it clearer and segmenting player pools more effectively, to ensure more and better matches.”

Remedy is also seeking more dynamism in runs, particularly in the first two Zones, by randomizing the locations of ammo stations, suspension lines, key items, and more. While it knows players want more Jobs, the developer is “seeing a lot more possibilities for what to do with levels and, therefore, are thinking up a lot of ways to both expand how much we have and how you play it. We expect to learn a lot more about what you want and don’t want after you see what we can do.”

FBC: Firebreak is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC alongside Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium. It received mixed reviews (check out ours here) and despite crossing one million players at launch, the current 24-peak concurrent total on Steam is a measly 44 players.
