For context, the record was previously held by the PS4 from its November 2013 launch, where it had sold 1.1 million units in the US.

As more reports come out about the sales data behind the launch month for the Nintendo Switch 2, the more impressive the console seems. According to data courtesy of Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, the Switch 2 sold 1.6 million units in its launch month of June. This sales figure has made it the single best launch month for any console in the US market.

For the sake of context, the record was previously held by the PS4, which had managed to sell 1.1 million units back when it first came out in the US market in 2013. Even the original Switch wasn’t able to break this record in the country.

These impressive sales figures have also made the Switch 2 the best-selling piece of video game hardware in the country, both in terms of sheer number of units sold, as well as in terms of how much money was made. Despite these accolades, however, the PS5 is still in the lead when it comes to year-to-date figures for both revenue generated and units sold.

As for game sales, Mario Kart World is right up there as the number 3 best-selling game for June in the US with all platforms taken into account. While we don’t have exact sales figures, the data does include both physical sales, as well as sales of digital copies through the Nintendo eShop.

The fact that the Switch 2 would end up breaking the PS4’s sales records first started becoming evident when the launch-week sales figures were revealed. At the time, Piscatella reported that 1.1 million units of the console were sold in its opening week, breaking the PS4’s opening week sales records in the country. The best-selling game for the console even at the time was Mario Kart World, followed by Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

For the sake of comparison, when it comes to worldwide sales, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had confirmed that the first four days of the Switch 2’s launch alone accounted for 3.5 million units sold.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was launched worldwide on June 4. The console is priced at $449.99, and is also available in the form of a bundle with a copy of Mario Kart World included, priced at $499.99. This bundle is also the least expensive way to get your hands on the console and the game, since Mario Kart World on its own is priced at $80.

The Switch 2 has a number of improvements over its predecessors, including a larger display that runs at a higher resolution, as well as more horsepower under the hood. For more details, here is everything you need to know.

The most recent first-party release for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been Donkey Kong Bananza. Developed by the studio behind Super Mario Odyssey, Bananza has already started proving itself to be quite popular, essentially being the fastest-selling game in the Donkey Kong franchise. It is worth noting, however, that the title still doesn’t quite compare to the sales for 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey.

Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 sold 1.6M units in June, the highest launch month unit sales for video game hardware in US history. The previous high was the 1.1M units of PlayStation 4 sold during November 2013.

Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 was June’s best-selling video game hardware in both units and dollars, while PlayStation 5 remained the best-seller year-to-date across both measures.
