"Will it be the same?" says David Hayter regarding a new title that doesn't involve Hideo Kojima. "No. Could it be amazing? Sure."

We’re about ten days away from the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and even if it is a remake, it wasn’t too long ago when a new title in the series felt impossible. Despite featuring several veterans who worked on previous entries, there are plenty who have gone their own way, including creator Hideo Kojima.

Series producer Noriaki Okamura touched on this in the latest PC Gamer magazine (via GamesRadar). “With many of the original staff members now pursuing new paths, we are aware that there are still elements lacking in our ability to fill the gaps left by their departure.”

However, it’s still provided some strong results. “Through the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta, we have also gained a new sense of what our team is capable of.”

Whether that could mean a new remake or even a brand new entry, actor David Hayter thinks the latter is “absolutely possible,” even if it won’t be the same without Kojima’s involvement. “Will it be the same? No. There’s no way to replicate [Kojima’s] exact genius, his exact weirdness, his specific personality.

“When I was a kid, I loved Tim Burton’s Batman, and was like, ‘That’s how Batman should be done.’ And then Chris Nolan does Batman, and you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s pretty badass as well.’ So will it be the same? No. Could it be amazing? Sure.” The sentiment mirrors Okamura’s statement on how the remake cold either replace or complement the 2004 classic, depending on the fans.

Of course, Konami hasn’t indicated whether a new entry is in the works, so we’re stuck waiting. At the very least, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater should fill the void when it launches on August 28th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. For those who can’t wait to see more, it’s confirmed for Xbox’s Gamescom broadcast on August 21st and also playable for attendees.
