Developer IO Interactive has released a new trailer for its upcoming James Bond game 007: First Light, this time around announcing that one of its characters, Dr. Selina Tan, will be played by Gemma Chan, an actor known for her roles in movies like Marvel’s Eternals and Crazy Rich Asians. 007: First Light wouldn’t be Chan’s first appearance in a game either, as she previously played Diablo4 Season 2 character Erys.

Chan’s character, Dr. Tan, is set to be an academic with a background in psychology and game theory, and she is set to play an important role in the game’s story. According to the trailer’s description, Dr. Tan is going to be pivotal to Bond’s journey to getting his 00 status over the course of 007: First Light, and the studio has confirmed that she will serve the role of the head of Tactical Simulation for intelligence agency MI6.

It is worth noting that, while Chan has previously lent her voice to a video game before, 007: First Light will mark the first time that her likeness will also be used in a game. The character is a brand new one, not having appeared in Bond fiction before, and was created specifically for IO Interactive’s upcoming title.

“Casting experienced talent like Gemma Chan ensures that the performances match the ambition of the game, bringing emotional nuance and authenticity to its characters,” wrote IO Interactive’s senior global communications manager Yann Roskell in the announcement. “By combining blockbuster visuals with performances full of range and presence, 007 First Light aims to deliver a Bond story that feels compelling to play and enjoy.”

Chan will be joined by M. Alastair Mackenzie playing Q, and Kiera Lester playing Miss Moneypenny. The title will also feature Lennie James taking on the role of James Bond’s mentor John Greenway, and Noémie Nakai as Miss Roth.

Along the reveal that Chan will play the role of Dr. Tan, the trailer also gives us a look at some of the more bombastic gameplay that is possible in 007: First Light, ranging from epic gunfights, fist fights in night clubs, car chases, and even an action set piece that takes place in and around a plane.

While there will be plenty of action to go around in the upcoming game, especially since IO Interactive has confirmed that it wants to make sure that gun play feels good and not like a failure state like it does in Hitman, the studio has also spoken about the role of gadgets. In an interview from earlier this month, gameplay director Andreas Krogh spoke about how the gadgets in the game need to be “more than just gimmicks”.

“We wanted each gadget to feel practical, grounded, but fun and replayable to fit as many areas as possible,” Krogh said. “We also wanted them to feel distinct from each other, both visually and practically, so each has its own purpose. All in all, they should give the player a broad list of tools to fit [their] playstyle.”

007: First Light is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 27, 2026.
