Sony Might Be Mulling Delaying The PS6’s Release From Its Planned 2027 Launch, Per Rumors

The next generation of PlayStation might be more distant than we think, and it looks like our PS5s are going to get a little more mileage.

Word around the block is that even Sony hasn’t been able to insulate itself from rising hardware costs led by a demand for AI-related components. We’ve spoken about this before, and it looks like our worries are coming true.

While nothing’s confirmed yet, an annual report from publisher Embracer has hinted at a delayed release for the PS6.

“Some analysts believe that Sony is now considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation console from 2027 to 2028 or even 2029.”

These whispers might hold some merit, despite the lack of confirmation from official sources. That’s because, although manufacturing on the PS6 could be starting soon if it hasn’t already, Sony is going to be worried about passing on the additional costs it incurs onto consumers who were already disgruntled at increases in the prices of PlayStation devices. Predictions that the PS6 might be quite pricy are also doing the rounds, and Sony is certain to be aware of them at this point.

Well, we’d say our PS5s and PS5 Pros are still running strong and are sure to continue delivering great experiences for a while, even after the PS6 releases eventually. We believe a lot of you might consider holding on to your trusty machines while trying to wait out this rather unfortunate situation. It might be some consolation to know that rival manufacturers are also facing the same problems, a situation that could mean that the next generation of gaming hardware might be further than we all anticipated.
