Valheim to Cost $10 More With Update 1.0, Fate of the Ocean Biome Remains Unknown

Bug fixes are a given, but Iron Gate says it's "too soon to say whether or not there will be more content" in the future.

Valheim - Mistlands

Has it really been five years already? Well, time does fly when you’re having fun, and Valheim has certainly made sure of that in the days since its Early Access release and ports to a bunch of platforms.

But with the title hitting its 1.0 release, accompanied by a new ice-based Deep North biome, it’s going to get a tad more expensive to own. It currently sits at $20 and is set to go up to $30 when the update hits on September 9. Of course, it’s going to be worth it if you’ve been a fan of its addictive gameplay loop over the years, but for new players, it’s a good idea to pick up a copy when it’s cheaper, and perhaps get used to its survival mechanics before the update drops. Indeed, even existing players might want to start a new playthrough to ensure a smooth transition.

However, there is speculation that the Ocean biome won’t get any new content in the update, with many arguing that a promised addition from the content roadmap might be left behind. However, we wouldn’t give up hope just yet. Developer Iron Gate stated in an FAQ that the studio might be waiting and watching before it green-lights any new additions.

“We will continue to improve the game with bug fixes and quality of life stuff, though for exactly how long the game will continue to receive updates is currently too soon to say. Likewise, it is too soon to say whether or not there will be more content added to the game in the future—but as always, we will be sure to announce any news on our channels!”

Well, fingers crossed, but we’re not holding our breath for an official announcement on this one. Besides finally leaving Early Access, 1.0 marks the game’s debut on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It’s currently available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
