Beast of Reincarnation Offers “About 30 Hours” of Gameplay Across 10 Stages, Says Director

You won't experience vast open-world environments in 2046 Japan, but there's still plenty to discover with Emma and Koo.

Beast of Reincarnation

A new round of previews has dropped for Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation, unveiling even more details for its surprisingly intriguing post-apocalyptic action adventure. Director Kota Furushima already confirmed that it’s not an open-world game, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a sizable experience.

Speaking to Game Informer, he said, “There [are] approximately 10 ‘stages’ [spanning] about 30 hours of gameplay.” Of course, he didn’t clarify if that only encompassed the narrative or included the ample amount of side content. Because each location lets you explore freely, solving puzzles and locating items that may help on the journey.

Despite the Souls-like (and Sekiro-like similarities), Beast of Reincarnation isn’t following many of its same design choices. Resting doesn’t respawn enemies, and if you die, nothing is lost. Any unlocked locations will stay that way, so there isn’t even a rogue-lite twist or two that requires revisiting objectives. It’s still challenging, but you can tweak the difficulty to your liking.

Coupled with the world design and theme of “growth” – which isn’t lost on us given protagonist Emma’s struggles with the Blight or her partner, Koo, a Malefact borne from the same – Beast of Reincarnation is shaping up into something special. It’s out on August 3rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC for $60. Head here to learn more about the world and the imposing bosses, known as the Nushi, that inhabit it.
