Tomb Raider: Catalyst Seemingly Delayed to 2028, Per Amazon’s Head of Gaming

After Legacy of Atlantis faced a delay to February 2027, the next mainline title in the series is apparently skipping next year entirely.

Tomb Raider Catalyst

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis getting delayed to early 2027 was the right move, especially with how crowded the Fall 2026 window had become. And while many speculated whether Tomb Raider: Catalyst would be delayed as well, Amazon’s head of gaming, Jeffrey Gattis, seemingly confirmed it in an interview with The Game Business.

“We’ve announced the two Tomb Raider titles. You know, Atlantis comes February 12th of next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one. So we’re excited about those.” He also briefly touched on “other AAA things” that are currently in “various stages of discussion right now,” though that’s clearly not the big story.

Of course, Crystal Dynamics has yet to issue a statement, so you have to wonder if Gattis may have jumped the gun. It still makes sense, regardless – Legacy of Atlantis is a remake that’s retailing for $59.99 and would have its own marketing costs.

Regardless of its success, Amazon may have a bigger marketing push in mind for Tomb Raider: Catalyst, since it’s the first new title in the series since 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider (and apparently the series’ biggest yet). It may also be as simple as not wanting to saturate the market with too many titles in the series, allowing Legacy of Atlantis some time to breathe.

While we wait for an official announcement of the delay, you can check out the latest developer diary for the remake, which goes over Lara Croft’s movement and traversal. Crystal Dynamics has also talked about customizable difficulty options that could mirror Shadow of the Tomb Raider – head here for more details.
