After about six years of development, Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s a big change of pace for the developer, better known for the Pokémon series, which takes place in 4026, where Japan struggles to survive during the Blight.
As Emma, players team with Koo, a Malefact, to slay the Nushi and the Beast itself to ensure the survival of the Capital. What starts as a road trip-style action-adventure slowly gives way to something else entirely. Of course, the parrying system and command-based tactics (courtesy of Koo) remain consistent throughout.
You can check out our review for Beast of Reincarnation here. We gave it an eight out of ten, praising the art direction, combat, and exploration, though it’s severely hampered by presentation and technical issues (not to mention some dull interactions). Unfortunately, it seems the PC version has launched in a rougher state.
It currently sits at a “Mixed” rating with 51 percent of the 930 user reviews giving it a thumbs-up. Besides the lack of variety in enemies and music, issues such as blurriness (despite turning off depth of field), the iffy camera, and lack of AMD FSR 4 support have rubbed some players the wrong way. Game Freak has yet to announce any fixes or improvements, so stay tuned for updates.
