Lies of P 2 Developer Admits There’s “Definitely Pressure,” But It Wants to “Do Even Better”

"Lies of P is our starting point. The question now is how much more we can build from here," says narrative director Kwon Byungsoo.

As impressive as Lies of P looked before its debut, very few expected it to scratch that Bloodborne itch as well as it did. Of course, it’s a compelling Souls-like in its own right, whether it’s combat, the weapon customization or Krat as a whole. With over four million copies sold, it’s an unmitigated success for NOUGH Studio, but that brings added pressure for the sequel.

In a recent video, narrative director Kwon Byungsoo said, “Back then, attending an awards ceremony or standing on that stage felt like something that happened to other people. I used to think, ‘I wish I could stand there someday.’ Now I find myself thinking, ‘We have to do even better next time. How much better do we need to be?'”

Indications of a sequel emerged in 2024 when a job listing pointed towards the use of Unreal Engine 5. Fast forward to 2026, with NEOWIZ confirming the team is “fully focused” on its development. We still don’t know the premise, or even if Pinocchio returns.

However, the NOUGH Studio isn’t looking to start from scratch. “When we first started, we were building from a completely blank slate. We kept asking ourselves just how far we could go. Now Lies of P is our starting point. The question now is how much more we can build from here,” said Byungsoo.

Art lead Cha Byungjun added that, “There’s definitely pressure, but for now we’re trying to set that aside and return to the mindset we had while making Lies of P. We’re trying to hold onto it.”

That mindset seemingly involved plenty of excitement and anticipation, at least for director Choi Juwon. But things are a bit different for the sequel. “When I look at the team now working on our next project, everyone is seriously thinking about how we can do even better. They seem to be grappling with the same questions I am. So now, our drive to push ourselves further has only grown stronger.”

It’s a rough business, especially when fans have their own expectations about what they want to see. Nevertheless, even without a release window, the march to Lies of P 2 – or whatever it ends up called – continues. In the meantime, Nintendo Switch 2 players can experience Lies of P: Complete Edition now.
