The leveling system for Coen’s vampiric abilities is dubbed Corruption, and also serves as a sort of transparent morality meter in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Corruption Meter
The fang meter to the right of the health bar tracks Corruption leveling as it fills with red. Once maxed out, Corruption ranks up, as represented by the numeric overlay displayed on top of the fangs. Drinking blood, regardless of source: animal, human, Vrakhir, is the primary way to fill the meter, aside from certain items like vials of blood.
Various abilities are locked behind specific levels of Corruption, and these level-gates can be tracked in the Vampirism skill tree. Certain higher-tier powers require blood specifically from Vrakhir, rather than ordinary human or animal blood, in order to unlock.
Vials Of Blood
While these can contribute to the Corruption meter, you should avoid using them since they are required for healing and crafting better healing items. While a regular loot drop, it would be better if you held enough of them on hand for healing or creating better Blood Infusions than raising the Corruption meter a tiny bit, relative to actively feeding on some creature.
Countering Or Curing Corruption
Despite the potentially negative impact of Corruption on the humanity or morality mechanism, there is no way to reverse or cure it. Corruption itself is not the issue however, so much as your choice of targets for feeding in order to fuel its leveling.
Avoid feeding on humans as far as is possible, favoring animal sources instead. Vrakhir are free game since they are inhuman, and hostile humans are probably okay in a pinch as well, if swordplay just won’t cut it.
Since it appears that almost all NPCs can be killed, be sure to manage your hunger well, so as not to trigger the forced feeding on nearby NPCs. Losing certain NPCs can potentially lock you out of content, including quests and merchant options.
