It’s been a pretty heavy couple of weeks thus far, and there’s even more to come with Control Resonant, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Silent Hill: Townfall, Gears of War: E-Day and so on. However, many are probably counting down the weeks until Phantom Blade Zero launches, judging by the over three million wishlists thus far.
While it’s impressive enough, especially with the action RPG launching in about six weeks, the jump is pretty significant considering it reportedly hovered around 1.62 million Steam wishlists as of early August (though the current total takes all platforms into account). The release date trailer and extended State of Play did wonders, especially for pre-orders, with creative director Qiwei “Soulframe” Liang noting they “far exceeded expectations” in the first week.
Alinea Analytics estimated 300,000 copies sold on Steam alone as of late August, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the current total has doubled. Time will tell, but thus far, it seems launching in a busy season, especially with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake out days later and Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19th, has done nothing to dull enthusiasm.
Phantom Blade Zero launches on October 29th for PS5 and PC. Check out why we thought it surpassed expectations after its last showing, and stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
