Watch Dogs doesn’t officially have any brand-new entries in development, at least according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, but a re-release may still be on the table. Rumors circulated about Watch Dogs: Legion Director’s Cut courtesy of Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, and his website recently claimed it would launch in the first half of 2027.
Now IGN is corroborating this via its sources, though it remains unknown what the re-release could include. Henderson heard about a “fully night mode” version, which would mean playing entirely at night-time and opening up more opportunities for subterfuge. However, there’s also reportedly new motion capture being done. New story material or improved character animations? Your guess is as good as ours.
Regardless, it doesn’t sound anything like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Launched last July to significant acclaim, the remake completely overhauled several aspects of the 2013 classic while mostly retaining the original plot. Perhaps Ubisoft isn’t keen to invest as much in Watch Dogs, especially with how Legion seemingly underperformed.
From that perspective, a re-release with various improvements, all the story DLC, and maybe some new graphical features could be a good way to test the waters. Time will tell, though, so stay tuned for updates and check out our review for Legion.
