While reports have indicated that Resident Evil Requiem – released back in February – has been topping the sales charts, a new report by Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics indicates that it has now been usurped by EA Sports FC 27. Since its release on February 25th, the football game is estimated to have generated $714.1 million in revenue thanks to its 7.9 million copies sold across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
According to Elliott, the PlayStation version accounts for the majority of EA Sports FC 27’s players, with 77.1 percent of the audience. Xbox, on the other hand, is in second place with 15.9 percent, and Steam sits at third place with 7 percent. Interestingly, the title is reportedly also beating out other sports games – NBA 2K27 and EA Sports College Football 27 – in revenue, making more than the two titles combined.
“While those sports reign in the US, it’s worth remembering that gaming is the global sport, and football (sigh… soccer) is climbing fast in the US too,” noted the analyst.
Offering further details on the estimated revenue generated across various platforms, Elliott notes that roughly 12.1 percent was generated by previous-generation consoles, amounting to $67.2 million from PS4 and $19.2 million from Xbox One. This revenue is expected to drop further since many potential customers are likely going to upgrade to a current-generation console for Grand Theft Auto 6. Elliott also believes that more than half of all copies of EA Sports FC 27 were sold during its early access period ahead of its release.
Comparing it to last year’s entry, EA Sports FC 27 has generated 22 percent more revenue than EA Sports FC 26 did in its launch period on PlayStation. Xbox and Steam, on the other hand, saw 14 percent and 17 percent declines, respectively. Despite this, the title’s strong performance on PlayStation has led to an overall growth of around 14 percent over EA Sports FC 26.
When it comes to regions, France is estimated to have generated the most revenue – around $82.5 million. The US is in second place with $68.4 million, while the UK is in third place with $61.3 million. Other European regions like Germany and Spain are also in the top-5, having generated $43.3 million and $24.1 million, respectively.
As for what the release of EA Sports FC 27 may have done to the overall top-sellers list, all other games have seemingly been pushed down. With EA Sports FC 27 claiming the top spot in revenue generation, Resident Evil Requiem is now ranked second, having generated an estimated $558 million. Forza Horizon 6 is in third place with $534.3 million, Crimson Desert in fourth place with $426.7 million, and 007 First Light rounds off the top-5 with $320.1 million. NBA 2K27, interestingly enough, has been estimated to have made $309.1 million since its release. EA Sports College Football 27 is also quite low on the list, having made $264.1 million.
