A protagonist who flees racism and hostility in America on a Japan-bound ship with Snoop Dogg at the helm might sound like a fever dream. But that’s how Stranger Than Heaven kicks things off for Makoto Daito and his friend-turned-rival Yu Shinjo in the game’s opening act.
Getting to Japan in the Kokura era might have been tough enough, but what about when he’s seen as an outsider even by his own people? Well, that’s the question the opening act seems to set up, and possibly dive deeper into once we get into the nitty-gritty of an era where modern development often clashed with rigid traditions and worldviews. Suffice it to say, Daito’s arrival into the center of it all puts him on a path of harsh realities.
Of course, we hope the pain translates into an act that sees him take over stages with style and substance, eventually bringing performances to life as a music producer without compare. Maybe even take down some bad guys with the game’s well-tuned combat system while he’s at it. We’re looking forward to when Stranger Than Heaven drops on January 15th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the new trailer below for an early sneak peek of Act 1.
