Phantom Blade Zero arrives tomorrow, and it’s a pretty auspicious occasion for developer S-Game, especially after all the positive reviews. While pre-launch sales remain a mystery, Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott updated the estimated number of copies sold from 500,000 as of last week on Steam to 850,000 (PS5 included).
Critics seemingly contributed significantly to that total, with 80,000 sales reportedly occurring after reviews dropped. Of course, since the action RPG will also be available via Tencent and WeGame, it’s believed to be “WELL past” one million sales at this point.
It won’t necessarily top Black Myth: Wukong, even with the alleged crossover in players, but remember these are pre-sale estimates. Phantom Blade Zero is currently topping Steam’s global sales charts ahead of launch, and if that positive sales momentum continues, it could reach even higher. That’s despite the coming weeks being taken over by buzz for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Officially, all we know is that pre-orders far exceeded S-Game’s expectations in the first week they went live back in August. Stay tuned for official numbers soon, ideally within the week.
