CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher franchise- both the games included- sold 1.5 million units in 2011, with The Witcher selling 1,110,055 units of those, out of which 270,000 were sold via digital distributors.
The Witcher 1, which was released back in 2007, also sold an impressive 400,000 units.
“We were all incredibly surprised by the number of copies sold,” said CD Projekt RED studio head Adam Badowski . “The Witcher 2 has garnered over 60 industry awards, and gamers seem to love it.””
He was pleasantly surprised by how well the first game sold, seeing as its almost five years old now. “I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, 5 years on from the game’s premier, are remarkable,” he said. “If anything, they prove that the content we put into our games ages well. I think that The Witcher will continue to generate buzz in the coming years.”
The Witcher 2 finally releases on the Xbox 360 this year, on April 17. Stay tuned for more coverage.
