Well this was going to happen sooner or later, as Forbes is reporting that Sony will go with AMD for its graphics needs next gen. Currently the PS3 features nVidia graphics card – RSX.
The RSX has been a major bottleneck for the PS3, so maybe Sony is not satisfied by nVidia’s offering to switch to AMD. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 features a Xenos GPU provided by AMD.
Switch to AMD puts Sony’s next gen console’s backwards compatibility feature in doubt. But considering the Vita can do it well, Sony may very well do something for that.
This information was revealed by AMD’s former engineers, and both AMD and Sony declined to comment on this news.
