Nintendo: “We don’t focus on specs”; devs confirm Wii U weaker than PS3/360

Out of the blue Nintendo has commented to Digital Trends via Yahoo that they don’t focus on specs, which probably means, they’re doing damage control and the Wii U is indeed weaker than PS3 and Xbox 360.

Of course, that’s just speculation and based on leaked info from unnamed developers. Some of them say that the system has a weak CPU which is underpowered compared to the one in the current gen consoles.

The Wii U has a lot of RAM and GPU but developers are struggling to port the current gen games to the Wii U.

“We do not focus on technology specs. We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers,” said a spokesman for Nintendo of America to Digital Trends.

Meanwhile, CVG has solid information that the Wii U is underpowered, and it is matching a lot of other rumours which you can check out over here.

“Assumptions that Wii U games will look like ‘up rezzed’ current-gen titles with better textures aren’t quite right. They’ll look just as good, but not better,” said one developer.

“You shouldn’t expect anything special from a graphics point of view.”

“We’re still working on dev machines but there have definitely been some issues [in porting PS3/360 games],” our source said. “It’s not actually a problem getting things up and running because the architecture is pretty conventional, but there are constraints with stuff like physics and AI processing because the hardware isn’t quite as capable.”

“I suppose you don’t need sophisticated physics to make a Mario game.”
