A Separate Call of Duty: Zombies Project is in Early Development, According to an Insider

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War - Zombies_02

Zombies may have been an off-beat unexpectedly good mode in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, but its popularity with players quickly turned it into a series mainstay. Every Call of Duty game developed by Treyarch has had a Zombies mode, while even Advanced Warfare and WW2 by Sledgehammer and Infinite Warfare from Infinity Ward featured Zombies. Clearly, it’s become an important pillar for the series- and it could soon grow in prominence even further.

Known insider Tom Henderson (a.k.a. TheLongSensation) – who has correctly leaked information on Call of Duty and Battlefield games on numerous occasions in the past – recently took to Twitter and dropped the nugget that a separate Call of Duty: Zombies project is in early development right now, and that as per current plans, it’s not going to be connected to other game in the series.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone’s new large-scale Zombies experience, Outbreak, could give some indications as to what this project – if it is real – could look like. There are several questions though, like who’s working on it, whether it will be free-to-play, or what platforms it will release for. Mobile has become one of Activision’s primary focuses, though they already released a Call of Duty: Zombies on iOS devices back in 2009 (it’s okay if you forgot).

A new premium Call of Duty game is, of course, coming out later this year. Reports have suggested that it’s being developed by Sledgehammer Games, and that it will be set during the Second World War again.

As always, take this new information with a grain of salt for now, but should we learn anything more, we’ll let you know, so stay tuned.
