Level-5 makes our list again. However, this time we’re covering Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, one of the more popular Dragon Quest titles in the franchise. Gameplay is similar to the Final Fantasy series and story wise the game is a bit quirky. Set in an ancient fantasy world, a court jester manages to steal a magical scepter changing everyone in the kingdom to various animals and plants.
Players take on the role of an unnamed guard who sets off to locate the jester and return everyone back to their normal selves once again. Visually the game was a masterpiece thanks to Akira Toriyama which you may be familiar with his work in the Dragon Ball anime series. Upon release, the game received outstanding positive feedback and even won a few game of the year awards over Kingdom Hearts II.
