TimeSplitters (Series)

Developer: Free Radical Designs
Publisher: Eidos Interactive

TimeSplitters is often compared to Rare’s 007 Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The reason being is that Free Radical Designs was a development studio founded by former Rare employees. That comparison does not mean TimeSplitters is just a clone. TimeSplitter gathered a strong following with its unique time traveling first-person shooter concept. All three titles released under the TimeSplitters series were made available for the PlayStation 2 with each title pinned players up against tasks that required the use of traveling through time and exploring different periods.

Campaign mode was fun but the real reason gamers picked up TimeSplitters was for the Arcade mode. Players could face off with bots in a traditional Deathmatch or other game modes such as Capture the Flag. With futuristic weapons and a wide range of different time period locations to battle in, TimeSplitters was a blast to play. Unfortunately, Free Radical Design only released three titles from the TimeSplitters series before the studio name changed to Crytek UK before closing in 2014.
