In its extensive breakdown for Ace Combat Online, the multiplayer component of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, Project Aces revealed its lobby system. Aside from visiting the Supply shop to unlock cosmetic items (which appear to follow a loot box system) and a training mode where you can learn the mechanics solo or with up to three other players, there’s an arcade where you can play classic titles like Pac-Man.
You can listen to music from past titles, purchase new aircraft from the Ace Combat Store or even visit other players’ lobbies. But perhaps the most intriguing new addition is the Ace Pass. Like any seasonal pass, you’ll unlock rewards by progressing through its tiers, and can upgrade to the Premium Ace Pass for more, including DLC aircraft. Each Ace Pass will be available for two months, coinciding with the season.
And if you’re getting a base case of FOMO, Project Aces says that any DLC aircraft can be acquired separately after the season concludes. How much, and how soon after, remains to be seen, though it wouldn’t be surprising if they were priced higher to incentivise purchasing the Premium Ace Pass.
Launching on October 2nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve pre-orders will receive Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War as a bonus.
