Alan Wake 2 enjoyed widespread critical acclaim and plenty of subsequence awards and accolades upon its launch last year, and though its commercial performance may not have quite matched that level of success, the survival horror title has been selling at a decent clip nonetheless. It started out, of course, as Remedy’s fastest selling game ever with over 1.3 million copies sold, and though it hasn’t yet recouped its budget, it’s making steady progress towards that goal.

In its recent quarterly earnings report, Remedy Entertainment highlighted the recent launch of Alan Wake 2’s first expansion, Night Springs, as well as the announcement of its upcoming physical release, before adding that the survival horror sequel has now recouped “most” of its development and marketing costs.

“One highlight of the quarter was the release of the Night Springs expansion for Alan Wake 2,” Remedy says. “The press reviews and fan feedback for the expansion have been excellent.  In June, Remedy and Epic Games announced that the Physical Deluxe Edition of Alan Wake 2 is coming out in October and a Collector’s Edition will ship in December. At the time of publishing this report, Alan Wake 2 has recouped most of its development and marketing expenses.”

How much of those costs has it recouped precisely though? During the company’s recent investors call, it was revealed that Alan Wake 2 has recouped more than 80 percent of its budget. Presumably, that means it won’t be long before it has broken even and can start earning royalties for Remedy, especially with its second expansion, The Lake House, coming this October.

Alan Wake 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
