Originally scheduled for an October 2023 release, developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark reboot was delayed into January of next year to avoid a clash with other major games releasing around its original release date. With a little over a month left until its launch though, the survival horror title has been hit with another delay.

In an update published on THQ Nordic’s website, it’s been announced that Alone in the Dark will now release a couple of months later, in March. The decision has been made so as to avoid crunch over the upcoming Christmas holiday period, as well as to ensure that the game “not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community”.

“The year is coming to an end, and the Christmas Holidays are upon us. However, until today, it didn’t seem that way for Pieces Interactive, the team developing our upcoming survival horror game, Alone in the Dark,” the delay announcement reads. “With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them.

“Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20th, 2024.

“The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays. Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David [Harbour] and Jodie [Comer] as the main protagonists.”

Alone in the Dark will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For information on the game, make sure to read our interview with THQ Nordic associate producer Andreas Schmiedecker.
