THQ Nordic associate producer Andreas Schmiedecker speaks with GamingBolt about the survival horror franchise's upcoming reboot.
THQ Nordic associate producer Andreas Schmiedecker speaks about Alone in the Dark's brand of horror, and how it will differ from the likes of Resident Evil and Dead Space.
The game will "strive for an equal distribution between combat, exploration, puzzles, and story", with "a light tendency towards exploration and puzzles."
In addition to a quality mode that will target 4K and 30 FPS, the upcoming survival horror title will also feature a 60 FPS performance mode.
THQ Nordic "will be happy to explore further" if reception for the upcoming reboot merits follow-ups.
"For the full story experience, we would expect players to play the game at least twice," assosciate producer Andreas Schmiedecker says.
However, those who remember the original story will "find a lot of hints and references" and "a couple of surprises."
Depending on who players control, they'll see different parts of the manor and reactions from NPCs reflected in the cutscenes.
The prologue follows Grace Saunders as she's asked to deliver a letter to Emily Hartwood while a strange presence lingers in Derceto.
The reboot retails for $59.99 and features Jodie Comer and David Harbour as the protagonists, Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby.
THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive will "unveil answers to some of the most pressing questions surrounding the game".
"This year's showcase will not only include world premiere announcements but also updates and reveals for previously-announced games," the publisher says.
The publisher is also bringing the likes of The Valiant, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, Wreckreation, and more.
In development since late 2019, the survival horror reboot is currently in alpha. Mikael Hedberg of Amnesia: The Dark Descent fame is the writer/director.
Listed for PS5 on Smartoys, the revival is described as a “love letter to the cult '90s game.” It features two playable characters and survival horror elements.
THQ Nordic has owned the Alone in the Dark IP since 2018, and has a digital showcase set for later this week, on August 12.
