Even with criticisms regarding the quality of launch exclusives and hardware issues, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have both been incredibly successful since their respective launches. Sony announced at the beginning of December that the PS4 had sold more than 2.1 million consoles since launch, while Microsoft touted the Xbox One as being the fastest selling console in the US for November.
Meanwhile, Amazon states that both consoles at their peak during the holiday season managed to sell 1,000 units per minute. This makes it fairly more reasonable that Sony will be able to sell 3 million PS4 consoles by December 31st.
The top selling titles on Amazon for the holiday season were also revealed and unsurprisingly, they’re all current gen titles. This includes Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360), Just Dance 2014 (Wii) and Grand Theft Auto 5 (Xbox 360). You’ve got to feel a pang of sadness for Nintendo considering the ultimately lackluster sales of the Wii U.
What are your thoughts on the success of both consoles? Will the PS4 emerge victorious eventually or are we just getting started with the new generation? Let us know below.
